Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
On behalf of the Trustees, I would like to express our deep sadness at the news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II and to offer our sincere condolences to His Majesty the King and the members of the Royal Family.
Although the Castle will remain open to the public during the National Mourning period, it will close for the whole of the day of the State Funeral itself. We will continue to offer the planned guided tours for Heritage Open Days, but as a mark of respect, and in keeping with the tone of National Mourning, we will not now be decorating the Castle or otherwise marking the planned Heritage Open Days festival next week. We would also kindly ask visitors to the Castle to please be mindful of the fact that it remains a Royally-owned site, and to be respectful of the National Mourning period.
