Donate

Berkhamsted Castle Trust is run by local volunteers to care for Berkhamsted Castle. We work in partnership with English Heritage to improve the visitor experience and maintain this cherished historic site.

We cannot operate without the kindness of donations from the public to cover our costs. Please consider making a donation to support our work.

If you are visiting the castle, a donation collection box is available inside the visitors’ room (when open), Please ask the volunteer supervising the room. You can also make a donation using any of the methods shown below.

Donate Online

The amount you donate will then appear on your phone bill, plus your standard network rate message cost.

Payroll Giving

One of the most tax efficient ways of donating to us is to commit to a regular donation from your salary. Many employers offer a Payroll Giving / Give as You Earn (GAYE) scheme, and often cover any administrative costs so that everything you donate goes to charity. The most popular scheme is run through the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).

CAF Give as you Earn

Donations are taken from your salary before tax, which means we receive more of your donation and it costs you less. It also means that we don’t have to claim Gift Aid from HM Revenue & Customs, so there’s less admin for us to do. It means we can get on with the day job of looking after the Castle instead.

Ask your HR or Payroll Manager whether your company has a Payroll Giving / Give as You Earn (GAYE) scheme. If not, contact CAF and they will contact your employer to explain the benefits of such a scheme.

Gift Aid

gift aidWhichever way you choose to donate to us, if you are a UK taxpayer, please also elect to allow us to reclaim Gift Aid on your donation from HM Revenue & Customs by selecting the option when you donate online, responding to the confirmation text message when you donate by text message or returning a Gift Aid declaration with your cheque. If you're a UK taxpayer, Gift Aid makes every £1 you donate to us worth £1.25, because we can reclaim the basic rate of tax on your gift from HM Revenue & Customs at no extra cost to you.
